About the Role
We are looking for Official Veterinarians (OVs) to support import and export certification processes, ensuring compliance with all animal health, public health, and food safety regulations. This role is crucial in maintaining the smooth movement of animals and animal products while upholding the highest industry standards.
As an OV, you will work in various locations, including ports, airports, and food processing facilities, conducting health inspections, verifying documentation, and ensuring compliance with UK and international regulations. You will play a key role in safeguarding biosecurity, disease control, and trade compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct veterinary inspections on live animals, animal products, and by-products for import/export certification.
Ensure all consignments comply with UK, EU, and international regulations.
Verify and complete Export Health Certificates (EHCs) and Import Veterinary Certifications.
Liaise with government agencies, port authorities, and industry stakeholders to maintain smooth operations.
Monitor biosecurity risks and ensure disease prevention measures are followed.
Carry out ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections where required.
Advise businesses and exporters on veterinary certification requirements.
Stay up to date with changing trade and veterinary legislation to ensure continued compliance.
Maintain detailed records and reports as required by regulatory authorities.
What We’re Looking For
RCVS-accredited veterinary degree (or equivalent).
RCVS registration or eligibility to obtain it.
Strong understanding of import/export regulations and animal health standards.
Ability to work independently while ensuring compliance with veterinary protocols.
Experience in public health, food safety, or animal health inspections is desirable but not essential – full training is provided.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage documentation accurately.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Category B driving licence with at least one year of driving experience.
